Li Bin meets with US Secretary of Health and Human Services

The head of China’s top health watchdog met with the US Secretary of Health and Human Services in Beijing on August 21.

Li Bin, minister of the National Health and Family Planning Commission, welcomed a delegation led by Thomas Price, US Secretary of Health and Human Services, saying that the two countries have a long history of health exchanges.

Li said the exchanges have led to fruitful results in health policy, disease prevention, medical scientific research, nurturing of talents and health education.

Li outlined China’s health service development and the latest results of its medical and health sector reform.

She also briefed Price on the vision of health cooperation between China and the US under the Belt and Road Initiative.

Li said she hoped the two countries can cooperate positively across health subsets and advance the people-to-people exchanges to jointly safeguard global health and development and contribute to the community of shared health for mankind.

Price spoke highly of the shared achievements of the US and China in the health sector and expressed his wishes for deeper and pragmatic cooperation in the prevention and control of chronic diseases, including infectious diseases and cancer.

The two sides also discussed the prevention and control of flu, health research and cooperation with Africa, among other issues.
