Liu Yandong meets with WHO Director-General Margaret Chan

Chinese Vice Premier Liu Yandong met with WHO Director-General Margaret Chan in Beijing on May 13.

Liu welcomed Margaret Chan's presence in the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation.

She appreciated Margaret Chan in her contribution to lead WHO coping with global health challenges, improving people's health condition and pushing the health cooperation of WHO and China ahead.

"The Chinese government is willing to further cooperate with WHO in the health sector of Belt and Road Initiative. We wish that the it will be a healthy initiative in improving Chinese and global people's health condition," Liu said.

Margaret Chan expressed her gratitude to the Chinese government's support for her work.

She said that the Belt and Road Initiative highly coincides with WHO's 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

"WHO will further cooperate with China to make greater contributions to the development of global health sector," she noted.

Also taking part in the meeting were Li Bin, minister of the National Health and Family Planning Commission, its vice-minister Cui Li, Dr Bernhard Schwartlander and WHO's representative in China and Ren Minghui, assistant director-general of WHO.
